Carla is the tritagonist of Strings of Fate, though she serves as the main antagonist of the Curse Arc.

Carla is a very powerful and well-known magic user, with it being said that her skill is second only to Shem. Carla is introduced in Chapter 6, but her full name isn't revealed until near the end of the Curse Arc. She was born awakened; meaning she has been able to use magic her whole life.

Appearance

Carla is a tall woman with a slim build. She has thick, black hair that, when tied, reaches to her upper back, and mid-back when loose (though her hair has yet to be seen this way). Carla has a live rose in her hair, that whenever it's shown to wilt, she heals with magic. It was given to her by Miguel when they were kids.

Personality

Carla is usually seen as a strong and strict person, but sometimes seemingly breaks character and being immature (like laughing at Chloe and Carson when they're awakened with Magnetism magic.)

Despite her life being in constant danger since traveling with the Duflora twins, she tends to spare her enemies lives, doing things like ending battles with a deal or finding other ways to incapacitate her opponents. Carla's normally tough exterior seems to be broken whenever Shem is in close proximity. Carla is noble and mature, and carries herself with a lot of respect. She speaks eloquently, and rarely, if at all, uses swear words.

History

Carla has always been interested in magic, and a very adept magic user. She is responsible for two instances of Strings of Fate; one linking her and Miguel, and the inciting incident of the story, the instance of Strings of Fate linking Chloe and Carson.

Carla's magical prowess got Shem's attention, but when she refused to help him, citing his goal as an act against nature, Shem grew furious with Carla, simultaneously fearing her power, who was second to his. He considers her an enemy and tries to kill her at any cost.

After cursing the Duflora twins with Strings of Fate, Carla promises to help them get rid of it at any cost.

Trivia

Early art shows that Carla was originally intended to use Water magic. This was later given to Miguel.
Carla's middle name, Rosa, is the Spanish word for 'rose.' She's one of three characters in Strings of Fate to be named after a flower.
Carla is the only character to have two musical references in her name; 'Carla' is a reference to the Jamiroquai song by the same name. 'Vives' is a reference to Carlos Vives, a popular Colombian singer/songwriter.
It's been stated that if magic types didn't have weaknesses or strengths (i.e. Fire being strong against Nature), Carla would beat Rosanna in a fight.
Carla's birthday, 2/16, is the opposite of Miguel's, 6/12.
